How often do I need to calibrate the PH meter?

It's recommended to calibrate the PH meter before each use for the most accurate readings.

What type of batteries does the PH meter require?

The PH meter requires 2 AAA batteries.

Is the PH meter suitable for outdoor use?

Yes, it has an IP65 waterproof rating, making it suitable for outdoor conditions.

Can I use this for flat surfaces, such as tree bark?

No, it is used to test the pH of the solution. Thanks.

Can I use bottled water to rinse between calibrating and am I boiling water to mix with the sachets?

Bottled water should he fine to rinse however I use distilled water for that and yes to boiling water for the sachet, I just leave it cool to the correct temperature and then calibrate.

When calibrating is it really necessary to use distilled water?

I found calibration a bit of a hassle, mixing up the 3 solutions to provide exact references for the meter to calibrate to. If you don't use distilled water then the water you use may contain salts that affect the reference ph of the solutions. Same goes for rinsing the meter after every measurement. I found it a hassle, but decided I would use distilled water. I haven't tried it with tap water to compare.

Is this better than the dr.meter ph100?

I do not know if the PH100 meter is better than this particular meter from the Dr.Meter range - but what I do know is that the PH100 looks to be very similar to another PH meter we bought that lasted about 2 months before PH level readings become unreliable and calibration became difficult to carry out. This meter - if you visit the Dr.Meter website it is called the PH838 - seems to be very reliable. We use a concentrated acid solution on our wash line system on our powder paint process. We have found that the typical cheap PH meters just do not survive working in this enviroment with the acid solution. We have a much more costly Apera meter, but only use it to confirm the results other meters show us. For the difference in price and based on my experience I would choose to use the PH838 meter over any other PH meter bar our more expensive Apera. Currently we have plans to buy a backup PH838 meter that we will keep in stock ready for any possibility the PH838 is failing..... however going by the results I am seeing that will take a long time to happen.

Can this be used to check hardness of tap water or do I need a different tester?

No, you need a TDS pen. TDS pens/metres measure the dissolved solids in your water such as minerals. Hard water is usually Calcium, binding with other minerals such as Magnesium or Phosurus to create Calcium Phosphate or similar, which we normally call Limescale.

How long does it take to get a reading as I put in a glass of tapwater and it took about 5 minutes to get a steady reading?

It normally only takes a couple of minutes to stabilize, it's probably faulty.
