The colors can be mixed properly because they're not the same although it may be confusing that they are in appearance because, for example, one blue may be used for green and the other for purple. The set doesn't smell very strong and doesn't have an after odor. It is perfect for people looking for moderately-priced sets to learn how to mix colors well for their art without resorting to Cadmium-based colors. While some people who left customer reviews seemed to have received a set with the wrong colors, most customers enjoyed using the product and their art looks vibrant with this paint set.
