For cucumbers or beans, it is better to add a small trellis or cage so they can attach to it. The bottom is about 12 inches wide and it comes with a saucer for the bottom but no soil. The pockets are the size of a 4" pot, so growing garlic may be difficult. Each tier requires four quarts of planting soil. Generally, one pocket per plant is recommended, especially for sensitive plants like bare root strawberries. Customers have also suggested that the planter is cute but smaller than expected and may require stabilising with a pvc pipe for stability although the product is cheaper than some other comparable products.
