The clock is an electric clock that comes with a USB cord and an adaptor which plugs into the outlet. The display stays lit while it's plugged in and can be set up to dim during the night using the automatic illumination setting. The clock has multiple features which include day, date, temperature, and time display. The American local time is downloaded and stored in the clock by an inside button cell battery when it's connected to the main power, and it also has a battery backup (three AAA batteries) to prevent memory loss of the preset time when there is no power. The brightness of the display is adjustable based on the environment it's being used and the clock can still sound the alarm even in the absence of power. Nevertheless, the clock is not an atomic clock as it can run a minute or two slow over a few weeks and will need to be reset if you want it to read the correct time.
