George Orwell'in Bin Dokuz Yüz Seksen Dört adlı romanına da esin kaynağı olan Demir Ökçe, toplumda ve siyasette gelecekte yer alacak değişiklikleri irdeler. Jack London'ın ileride ABD'de bir çöküş yaşanacağı yolundaki öngörüsü tam anlamıyla gerçekleşmemişse de, yazarın uluslararası gerginliklerle ilgili görüşleri birkaç yıl farkla da olsa gerçek tarihle örtüşür. Demir Ökçe'de 1913'te başlayan bu çatışma, gerçekte 1914'te patlak vermiştir.
